444

Last Saturday Michalis Kotsakis has spotted the first Pallas’s Warbler (Phylloscopus proregulus) for Greece. This is the 444th bird species for the country. What is more important is that the bird was found in Athens (!) at mount Hymettus. Even though birding is not a common hobby here, at Sunday many bird watchers and photographers went to the spot and saw the bird. Unfortunately I was out of town with no Internet access during the weekend, so I was not there on Sunday. However yesterday afternoon I went there right after the office. Many more bird watchers and photographers were already there and we were lucky enough to watch the bird for over half an hour. The tiny fellow was moving frantically from tree to tree and it was quite difficult to take any photos of him but at the end of the day I did manage to get a couple of decent images.
